█ Whilst it is now well-know that the
█ future Aldiss envisioned in "Hothouse"
█ will never come to pass, since the Sun
█ will engulf the Earth long before the
█ latter could become tidally locked to
█ the former, there are still things to
█ note about this novel. First, the de-
█ scription of being infected with sapi-
█ ent mushrooms, and, sadly, his hople-
█ lessly antiquated, misogynistic style.
